Olive Oil as a Cleanser

This may sound a little counterintuitive, but I’ve been washing my face with oil. Not an oil wash from a cosmetics company, but olive oil from my kitchen cabinet. And I’ve been pretty pleased with the results.

I mixed the olive oil with equal parts of castor oil and a few drops of lavender essential oils. I put everything into a small glass bottle and shook it up. Twice a day I rub some of the oil into my face for about a minute then use a hot wash cloth for a quick steam then wipe off the oil. My face has felt softer and my complexion has seemed more even.

The castor oil is said to pull out the dirt while the olive oil moisturizes. That means you don’t have to use a separate moisturizer. But since it’s winter and my house is dry, I put on a night moisturizer before heading to bed. If you do skip the moisturizer during the day make sure your makeup has SPF or you put on a separate sunscreen.
